The Monthly Blog Question: September

How has online learning affected you from an academic perspective? What have you found more difficult and what have you found to be easier?

Online learning has honestly been an experience. It has allowed me to learn so much about myself academically and has shown me where I can improve. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is a lack of motivation. Since I am the type of person that enjoys in-person classes and being around my peers, online learning via Zoom has definitely posed as a challenge because the learning dynamic has completely changed. Sitting on Zoom is a good alternative, but it only has so many capabilities. Because I am in my room all day, the one thing that is keeping me from being motivated is the lack of in-person study groups and the fact that I am always near my bed (I am an avid napper). Also, the lack of access to the library is a struggle because that was the only place where I could be motivated and actually work on studying or schoolwork. This lack of in-person resources has definitely been one of my biggest struggles during this remote semester.

Although virtual learning has significantly changed a big part of how we learn, I still think it is a good experience especially when it comes to flexibility and learning more about technology. Yes COVID-19 has caused us to lose access to important in-person resources like clinical and skills and sim lab, but it still allowed us to add a completely different aspect of learning into our overall knowledge. Zoom definitely has its challenges but ever since quarantine began, I feel like I have gotten to know it and I can see it being a big part of the future especially with businesses and schools.

Even though virtual learning has been a lot, I am still happy that everyone is doing their best to help facilitate a positive learning environment. This has been a great experience but I am looking forward to it to be over so that I can actually see people and learn in a more social environment.
