When I initially joined MSNS as a freshman, I viewed the club as a group of students helping each other through the struggles of nursing school. When I needed help with microbiology, I went to MSNS. When I needed help figuring out which block to pick, I asked MSNS.
Yes, the people of MSNS assisted in my academic development, but I never expected the organization to be such a huge factor in my personal growth. The dedicated e-board organized a variety of events each month. It was through my increased participation in these events that I found a sense of belonging and realized how important MSNS was to USF nursing.
By getting connected to mentors, volunteering, and attending social events, I was able to widen my perspective about the world of nursing and beyond. Nursing school is not only about the knowledge you learn in the classroom. It is also about the community you help build to further the ideals of diversity, academic excellence, and self-care.
As MSNS grows in both quality and quantity, I want to honor the great legacy of past members by contributing to the culture of community and mentorship. Being a member of MSNS is more than about earning five points a semester and getting the stole at graduation. Being a member is about participating and taking the opportunities given to gain knowledge and confidence, as well as passing down the lessons learned to following generations. I hope that I can contribute to these ideals through the podcasts and many other projects I have planned as the alumni relations and career chair.
